Embrace Your Journey Ahead With Me!
My name is Blaise Dismer. I am a recovered agoraphobic man and a long-standing member of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, and I strive to help persons with panic attacks and anxiety to heal. From my first full-blown panic attack on my 21st birthday until now, I have been constantly learning about anxiety and have taught many others how to cope with it and move forward. Let me share with you the path I've walked, the challenges I've faced, the victories I've celebrated, and the hope I've found. Together, we can navigate through the unknowns of your anxiety and help you overcome the burden it brings.
Some may wonder about my reason for offering a resource for people suffering with agoraphobia. I can share my reason. Way back in 1973 when I experienced my first, mind-blowing panic attack I was 100% overwhelmed. What was happening to me? What was wrong with me? It was so bad that I was honestly concerned that I might never make it back to the “sane world” ever again. The thoughts that involuntarily showed up in my mind were unlike anything I’d ever experienced, and they seemed SO POWERFUL!
I returned to college and immediately changed my major to Psychology in an effort to understand what was going on. I wanted to try and find answers, but even after taking nothing but psychology courses my entire senior year, I felt no closer to the truth. So, I headed out West with a friend and wound up in Denver where I continued my desperate search for answers. I placed a call to the Colorado Psychological Association asking for a referral to a therapist. For years, I spent all my tips as a bartender seeing this man, got worse instead of better, and finally returned to my native state of Georgia with the help of my sister, Joan, and a Xanax. The psychologist I’d been recommended wound up going to prison. Bad luck, huh?
Back in Atlanta, I searched for free or affordable help. Many times, I have thought back to the times I struggled to have enough food. I was panhandling on the cold streets of Denver one Thanksgiving and sending out inexpensive liquid silver necklaces to churches asking if pastors could send me a few dollars. I had the great humiliation of forcing myself to drive to a job interview only to wind up on the hotel floor having chest pains and thinking it was a panic attack. I could easily write a book about such experiences. But back in Atlanta, family members got me the financial resources I needed to regain my health. Obviously, I was lucky; many aren’t.
This is a place to come for information, encouragement and help whether or not you can afford my paid services. My hope is that it helps you or your loved one get the answers that took me a long time to discover.
